Architecture | Gradient Folding Pattern

This project was to explore different ways of manipulating flat sheet metals into a stronger component for building facades. Learning from my previous project “My House. My Rules.”, I investigated how folding paper techniques can be transfered into folding metal sheets. Below are different prototypes of folding metal sheets. The center shapes are cut outs to relieve tension along the intersection of folding lines. The larger the cut outs are, the easier it is to fold, however, there needs to be a balance of how much to cut out due to cost effectiveness and efficiency.

The final prototype is made of a single modular that can be connected in the X, Y, and Z direction. The metal folds is a rain screen attached to a building facade that offers visual perspective from the interior to exterior environment.
